Procellar-ID was founded in May 2024 and, since then, has recorded around 45 bird species off São Miguel Island, including two new records to eastern Azores, as well as more than 2,000 records of less frequent species and over 1,000 snapshot samples dedicated to abundant species. This volume of data is made possible thanks to the dedication of several local collaborators and the contribution of more than 80 observers who have regularly shared their records. Preliminary results from the first years of fieldwork were presented at the latest edition of the Bienal das Baleias, held in Lajes do Pico, allowing us to introduce our methodology to an audience strongly committed to marine wildlife monitoring and conservation.

Currently, the platform is in a phase of consolidation and expansion to other areas of the archipelago. Future plans include the open and free publication of the data, collaboration with other regional monitoring and conservation projects, and the publication of studies on seabird ecology and distribution.
